Social Media Policy

SEAJBL Social Media Policy

Social media includes platforms where people connect, share, and communicate online. SEAJBL supports the use of social media to engage the basketball community, share knowledge, and promote the sport. However, to maintain a respectful and safe environment, all members must follow appropriate standards of behaviour when using social media.

Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to:

  • SEAJBL staff, administrators, committee members, and volunteers.
  • Coaches, referees, scorekeepers, statisticians, and players in SEAJBL operated leagues.
  • Players, parents, spectators, and anyone attending SEAJBL competitions or games.
  • Any individual who agrees to be bound by this policy.

What is Social Media?

Social media includes:

  • Social networking platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.).
  • Forums, blogs, and content-sharing sites.
  • Messaging apps, live streaming, and media-sharing platforms.
  • Any other online platform where public comments are made.

Social Media Guidelines

When using social media, you must not:

  • Post content that is abusive, threatening, offensive, or discriminatory.
  • Share misleading, false, or defamatory information.
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent yourself.
  • Share private images or videos without consent.
  • Use social media to express grievances related to SEAJBL events or officials.
  • Undermine SEAJBL’s operations, programs, or competitions.

Consequences of Policy Breaches

Violating this policy may result in:

  • A request to remove inappropriate content.
  • Suspension or banning from SEAJBL events or competitions.
  • Reporting to relevant authorities for legal breaches.

SEAJBL reserves the right to remove content from its social media pages and request individuals to delete content violating this policy.

Protecting Your Privacy
  • Do not share personal details such as passwords, addresses, or financial information.
  • Be mindful of your digital footprint—your social media activity reflects your personal and professional image.

Best Practices for Social Media Use
  • Show respect: Treat others online as you would in person at a game.
  • Think before posting: If in doubt, do not share content that could be harmful or offensive.
  • Take action against poor behaviour: If you witness inappropriate social media activity, remind individuals of their responsibilities or report serious violations to SEAJBL.
  • Remember the impact: Negative comments, bullying, or harmful posts can have real consequences, including disciplinary action.

Reporting a Breach

If you notice a social media violation, report it via email. Breaches will be reviewed by SEAJBL Management and addressed accordingly.

SEAJBL is committed to a respectful, safe, and inclusive basketball community. Use social media responsibly and positively represent the sport!
