Coaches are the heart of SEAJBL — they’re the face, the voice, and the energy behind every session on courts across Singapore.
They do more than just run drills or call plays. Our coaches shape the culture of the league, create meaningful connections with young players, and spark a love for the game that lasts beyond the final whistle. Head Coach Chee Siang
I began my coaching journey at 18, assisting my former secondary school team. Since then, I’ve progressed to coaching at three primary schools—serving as head coach for one and development coach for the other two.
Starting young allowed me to grow with a mindset I now live by: Learn, Play, Coach. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn from and play under some of the most experienced coaches in the game. Their mentorship continues to inspire me to both share what I know and stay hungry to keep learning.
What I love most about coaching is that it goes beyond basketball. I often use on-court experiences to help players understand how to tackle challenges in everyday life—because the lessons we teach are about more than just the sport.
Head Coach Elvin
My journey into basketball coaching began with a deep-rooted love for the game and a strong belief in its power to shape character. From a young age, basketball taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—principles that continue to guide me today. These early experiences sparked a desire to give back and share the same values with the next generation. That passion led me to pursue a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Edinburgh Napier University, where I built a solid foundation in athletic development, coaching science, and child psychology.
I currently coach children aged 4 to 14, focusing not only on their technical basketball skills but also on their confidence, teamwork, and love for the game. My goal is to create a structured yet supportive environment where young athletes feel empowered to grow—both as players and as individuals. Whether it’s celebrating a child’s first successful layup or watching a once-shy player find their voice on the court, these small but powerful moments reaffirm why I coach.
What I find most fulfilling about basketball coaching is watching that growth unfold. Seeing a player master a skill, gain confidence, or simply light up with joy during a session is incredibly rewarding. Being part of their journey—helping shape their experiences and create lasting memories—makes every hour on the court meaningful. Coaching isn’t just about the game; it’s about the positive impact we leave on the lives of the kids we mentor.
Coach Gabbie
Basketball has always been a big part of my life, and I naturally found myself sharing what I know with anyone who needed help—whether it was teammates, classmates, or younger players. I genuinely enjoy teaching others, breaking down techniques, and offering encouragement whenever someone’s trying to improve. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about watching a player grow—whether it’s mastering a new skill, gaining confidence, or simply enjoying the game more. Seeing their progress and knowing I played a small part in that journey makes me truly happy. It’s what drives my passion for coaching and keeps me excited to step on the court every day.
